Blond Highlights and Swimming Pools

We often hear from women who have blonde highlights in their hair and who enjoy swimming a lot, that every time they go to the swimming pool, their blonde highlights turn greenish. What can they do about this?

If you have highlights in your hair, and especially blonde highlights, the chlorine in the swimming pool will affect the colour.   With repetitive exposure to chlorine and sunshine, your blonde highlights will turn green.

In order to remedy this you shouldn’t just redo your highlights again to get the original color. This will result in breakage to your hair. If you are going to have the color redone, only do the roots. To avoid getting this greenish color you should try natural products. The most effective one is lemon. After coming out of the pool, squeeze some lemon onto some cotton wool. Do not put too much (it will depend on the length of your hair). Take the cotton wool with the lemon and start to run through the strands of your hair with it. Make sure you concentrate on the tips, as they are the ones most likely to turn green. Don’t overdo the lemon though as it can make your hair dry if used too often.
